Discover the Secret of the Lesser-Known Grape Variety đđ·
Origin:Â Italy
Region:Â Abruzzo, though also found in parts of Apulia.
Color:Â White
Style:Â Light, crisp, with distinct acidity and delicate minerality.

The unforgettable wine fairs in Pollenzo at the end of June in Piedmont made me realize how many grape varieties I still donât know. Cococciola (2.26 ha) from the MARCHESI DEâ CORDANO vineyard in Abruzzo, located 30 km from the Gran Sasso massif and 30 km from the Adriatic Sea, on the hills surrounding Loreto Aprutino at an altitude of 307 meters above sea level, with a south and southeast exposure, offers a wine with remarkable freshness and an intense bouquet with citrus notes and pleasant minerality. The nose features a green profile with a strong dose of lemon, lime, white grapefruit, and a delicate floral hint of acacia and zagara (Italian for citrus flowers, such as orange, lemon, lime, and mandarin blossoms). On the palate, a pleasant acidity enhances the previously mentioned aromas.
In addition to Cococciola, other grapes cultivated in the region include:
Montepulciano (6.07 ha)
Trebbiano (3.96 ha)
Pecorino (1.66 ha)
Passerina (1.21 ha)
Pinot Grigio (2.25 ha)
18 hectares of vineyards extend over clay and sandy marl soil, well-irrigated by water and enveloped by sea breezes and cool winds.
This pedoclimatic character ensures the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties.
Perfect Culinary Pairings
Cococciola pairs beautifully with various dishes, including:
Seafood:Â Ideal with seafood dishes like shrimp, mussels, or oysters.
Salads:Â Fresh and light salads with fruits or cheeses.
White Meats:Â Delicate dishes of chicken or turkey.
Cheeses:Â Light, creamy cheeses such as mozzarella or burrata.
